  “ Primal sensation of humans”

In the old times, how humans gazed at awe to the stone, how they listened in awe to night’s silence. In our daily life we rarely have occasions to become aware of awe-inspiring in nature.

I use clay as a vital material in which I am able to sense nature and to fulfill missing awe-inspiring sensation in my life.

I explore how this human primal sensation becomes objects and icons in both actual and imagined worlds. My perception of primal sensation is expressed through ceramic forms.
Life is maintained in physical bodies; a human body is a kind of container of life energy. I consider all forms in nature to be such vessels. In this sense my sculptural forms: abstract, abstract-figurative sculpture, are containers to express my perception of primal sensation. I attempt to embody awe-inspiring sensation in life into an abstract sculpture.
All my sculpture has one or two holes in vivid color and surface texture. The contrast of empty space to surface color makes physical my inspiration of dynamism of life. These holes represent a sense of “void” or “emptiness”, which is a universal feeling that can be shared with every culture. If a person thinks that holes suggest missing elements of our life, sculpture represents immaturity of life for him/her. On the other hand, if holes suggest a fertility of mind, sculpture associates with an idea of maturity.

Viewer fulfills holes with his/her sense, or viewer finds out something through holes. In either case the hole represents the infinite wisdom. I make sculpture tempting the viewer to evoke the primal sensation and its wisdom.
